Just had a great day at the West Surrey Golf Course and my golf for the last few months has been better than I imagine possible. Yesterday I had an awesome 38 going out but 42 coming back. My best ever score in again very windy conditions. I never thought I could ever be under 40 for a front 9 and in good conditions I believe I can break 80 regularly
All our hard works seems to be finally paying off with some great comments about my swing from some very good players. I know we are still on that journey but my goal of single figure is definitely there to be broken.
I’m now starting to very realise and feel how to deliver the club on plane and not to throw the club away. Ball flight is now lower and longer! Thank you for your patience and your commitment to being clear and concise. I am really starting to gain control over my ball flight and hit a few shots that I never thought possible!!!
I can see one day you will be one of the best coaches in the country and thank you for the great belief you have in me. Thank you for the support and great advice through the highs and very lows. Awesome Mate!!!!
From September 2011, I have worked with Russell on a regular monthly basis in his capacity as a teacher and a coach for golf. I came to Russell as a 11 handicapper with little a history of instruction in the golf swing but unfortunately had a golf game that was characterised by inconsistency with no discernable trend towards improvement.
The original brief given to Russell was for a regular course of coaching that would establish the fundamentals of a repeatable and effective golf swing for all of the various shots required to play the game with any success and enjoyment. I wanted to do this in a systematic way to cover how to hit all shots from drivers to irons to the short game and to putting.
The approach of Russell to this task suited my needs exactly as he takes a holistic, rather than mechanical, approach to the swing working to get all the parts of the swing to work in harmony by making you aware of your body and what it is doing rather than focusing on any one detail of the swing such as hands or weight transfers etc.
Since working with Russell I am down to an 8 handicap with all aspects of my game showing improvement and for this he must take the credit. My game has the potential for reducing this further. His approach is positive and his suggestions well thought out and clearly explained. He makes practicing fun and interesting, doesn’t overwhelm you with too much to think about and is extremely patient as you struggle to get your body to obey your mind.
Most importantly, Russell shows a real interest in the improvement of his students, taking careful notes to which he refers so that he is truly aware of you as an individual and takes on board your particular needs/aspirations. His, is not a one size fits all teaching philosophy but tailored to the abilities of the individual.
I can recommend him to all levels of golfers from beginners to advanced (his thoughts on course management and the mental aspects of golf are very useful and more relevant with improvement) not just from a technical point of view but as someone able to work and relate well with people and in that way maximising their potential.
With Russell as your teacher, you cannot do anything but improve and I wish him all success in wherever his career takes him.
Russell delivers his lessons at a good pace, which combined with good, clear direction makes all the information very easy to understand. Russell always ensures that I have fully understood what is required before moving on to the next item.
I have recently been on a theory based lesson with Russell called ‘your new golf mind’ which was delivered very well. The course was well advertised, professionally coordinated but above all delivered with enthusiasm and knowledge which fully engaged the audience. Having spent a fair bit of my life in lectures, seminars and various presentations Russell’s delivery of his subject matter is up there with some of the best speakers I have seen.
Despite starting my lessons 6 months ago Russell has helped me get down from a handicap of 21 to 16, however the quality of my game has improved immensely. I must admit that I was surprised at how long we have had to work on my technique compared to when I had lessons a few years back with a different coaches. I soon realised that this was massively beneficial to my game as I felt I was being rushed through the process by my previous coach and was simply not technically ready to move on as quickly as I was.
Russell was straight with me from the beginning, by stating that technically I had a lot of work to do and did not try to make me feel I was better than I actually was. Although not great to hear on your first lesson, it did focus my mind and made me believe there was a better golfer inside, but how hard I would need to work to realise my goals.
I have always been very impressed how well Russell manages to explain the issue you he is helping me with. If he thinks my eyes are beginning to glaze a little I can be sure he will find another way to help me understand or feel what we are looking to achieve.
I could not fault Russell’s professionalism be that on the range, course or administration.
I am delighted with my progress, I took up golf about 4 years ago aged 56
I had a few lessons and didn’t really get it, since finding Russell my game and understanding has steadily improved.
I do not believe I would still be playing if I had continued to use my first coach.
I travel 2 hours each way to get to my lesson.
I have found the coaching mentally quite challenging, as the coaching is based for me very much on my discovery of how the golf swing works, the interactions between my movements and the various parts of the golf club – which has proved to be very useful as I now have a much clearer understanding. When I’ve needed information from Russell its always been clear and easy to understand, if I’ve struggled with a concept, Russell has always managed to find an alternative way to make it clear, I’ve never felt I’ve left a coaching session with not understanding the principles and concepts discussed during the session.
No problem with Russell’s professionalism. He has a welcoming supportive approach, well presented, punctual particularly considering most of my coaching sessions have been at 7.30 in the morning. As a female I feel safe, he’s patient, very much focused on the client and not himself and has a good understanding of the type of person I am. Very good professionally.
Learning and playing golf for about 2- 3 yrs. Only seriously wanting to play in the last 2yrs ( 2nd summer as a regular member of a golf club). Russell is my 3rd golfing coach, my last 2 coaches (both left to do other things) were all technical based instruction, learnt very little of the “physics” or mental aspect of the game. Much prefer the Cranfield approach feel I’ve greatly improved under this system. My Handicap was 26 handicap but now 22, WOW, and still coming down!

I have been having lessons with Mike for one year now and in this time he has helped me reduce my handicap from six to two. In some of my lessons with him we outlined long-term and short-term achievable goals. He has been very good at rectifying major and minor swing faults and keeping me on track to progress as opposed to reverting back to old habits. Mike has given me the confidence to believe I can be a scratch golfer to the point where I am now looking to do my PGA qualifications and have a successful career in golf. Mike has also been helping me to improve my mental game, and my general attitude towards practice, competitive rounds and dealing with disappointment. Mike has been a huge factor in getting my handicap lower. Not only is he technically good and has a good knowledge of the golf swing but he is a delight to work with. He takes his job very seriously and is always prepared for my lessons. I cannot foresee myself changing coaches any time soon.
Michael has the ability to explain the fundamentals of the golf swing with ease and with the assurance that what he’s asking me to do will improve my game. The use of hula-hoops, old 9 irons, footballs, canes and ‘super high tech wooden swing path board thingy’ has really he1ped me visualise the relationship between my upper body, hands and the clubface.
Michaels professionalism has never been in doubt. From day one when he carried out his assessment of my game it was clear to see that he/Cranfield Golf Academy took a measured and professional approach to improving my game. Michael is always polite, approachable and always asks for my thoughts and comments.
I have achieved more with Michael over the past year than I have since taking up the game 3 years ago. From time to time my swing tends to breakdown however, whenever I see Michael he always asks how I’ve played/been playing and is ready to gives me a little pep talk, which normally does the trick. Working on a pre shot routines and visualization of shots/aim was real turning point in my development and has now become second nature and the base for every shot, good or bad!
My standard of golf now compared to before I started working with Michael has vastly improved. I now feel that my swing is more consistent and compact especially with my irons. Being more balanced over the ball has been key and promoting a downward strike on the ball has really improved my long irons. Having said this my driving and wood play is an area that needs work, which I’m sure will improve in the future with Michaels help.
There isn’t really one area I would say that Michael needs to improve on however, it would be great to be left with a couple of balls after the lesson just to go over what I’ve been taught as the end of the lesson comes round too quickly.
Keep up the good work Michael and the Cranfield Golf Academy
“To date I have had several lessons from Micheal Peregrin, His excellent manor allows you to feel at ease. His expert eye quickly identfies the shortfall in my game and then comes up with a remedy/plan. Which is then implemented over the following lessons …”
I can not recommend this true gentlemen enough.

I first met Adam at World of Golf in New Malden where he coached me a few times. I was so impressed with his professionalism and also his ability to be both technical and easy to understand that I transferred my allegiance to Sandown when he joined the academy.
I have always played various ball sports – tennis; squash and netball – and like to know the technical details and routines so that I can improve my game.
Adam has a rare skill in being able to explain technical intricacies in an easy to understand way. He was very through in his initial assessments and clear at setting out key aims for our series of lessons.
I teach at a girls grammar school so am fully aware of the pedagogy needed to teach a range of skills including communicating information clearly and concisely; setting targets; exercises and also giving pertinent feedback and of course encouragement. Adam is skilled in all of these areas and always able to clearly give key steps and procedures to follow to ensure consistency of shots.
I am particularly impressed with his advice on selection of shots when playing on the course which has been particularly illuminating as we are able to actually play certain shots on the course at Sandown rather than be restricted to the driving range.
I now regularly use his drills for putting and chipping, in particular, which have really improved my game and reduced my scores.
I also feel that he is very good at encouraging me as an inexperienced female golf player in a sport dominated by males which I think is a very important skill.
He is an excellent coach offering support with a real insight in how to make a difference to one’s game.
Adam is an excellent golf coach.
He coaches creatively and pragmatically.
He uses video, demo, examples and experience of other sports, to good effect.
In every lesson, Adam taught me the secrets and fundamentals of golf through
his inspirational teaching and exemplary swings which he demonstrated to me.
He has shown me a new world of golf that I had not known for the last 10 years.
He is a great teacher and has helped me overcome many errors which had been entrenched in my swing.
I would recommend Adam 110% to anyone who wants to learn or improve their golfing abilities.
Whatever he says whatever he shows I believe in him, because he is my sabu!
(p.s. sabu means teacher in korean)

“I decided to take up golf about this summer and I’m very pleased to have Justin as my instructor. Justin’s approach is never giving up and has really taken extra time and patience to focus on my stance and grip. His passion and belief in his work shines through and is reflected in his expert teaching. It’s been a real pleasure working with him.”
“Having played golf for 30 years without any coaching, my game was totally inconsistent. Standing in front of a ball I really had no idea if I’d be walking after it into woodland, or strolling down the fairway on my way to a par. So I was keen for my 14 year old son, who has only been playing a year, to not lose as many balls as I did.We both had a couple of lessons with amazing and instant improvement. Justin got to the core of the problems in only a short space of time. He clearly has an excellent understanding of the technical requirements to hit the ball straight and consistently. Fantastic teaching style.”.
“There is no doubt that all areas of my game have improved considerably as a direct result of my lessons with Justin. Whilst a 1 hour lesson may sound long it simply flies by. Justin used an antiviral game assessment to derive a plan for us to focus on and he really listens to your feedback between lessons and works on it. Justin is generous with his time and help outside of lessons and takes a real interest in how your golf is going. I cannot thank him enough for the way he has moved my golf forward in a relatively short time and making it more enjoyable for me”.

“Since 2008 I have worked very closely with Alex on a number of world class and ground breaking coaching and teaching related projects. I have also worked with him privately to improve my own golf game. Alex is unquestionably one of the most effective and knowledgeable coaches I have ever come across within any sport. His use of technology, I.T., science, coaching skills, and intuition gives him a deep understanding of how golfers can reach their full potential. I myself have made significant improvements with my own game with my handicap dropping from 8 to 4 since working with Alex. I cannot recommend him highly enough”.
“Alex has been coaching our son Marco full time since 2005, when he was 8 years old. Marco has made huge progress to date and achieved a scratch handicap at just 13 years old. Marco has won many tournaments and broken many historical golfing junior records.
Alex has always proved to be extremely committed and reliable. He explains the mechanics of the golf swing well, and Marco has always grasped Alex’s instructions quickly. If there is ever a ‘problem’ with Marco’s golf swing, Alex has the knowledge and expertise to correct this. We have always been extremely satisfied with Alex’s coaching techniques and would highly recommend Alex’s professional golfing tuition to any golfer, at any level. You won’t be disappointed!”
I have been working with Alex since the Autumn of 2012 and during this time I have significantly improved my golf more than I have during any similar period. Not only does Alex have a phenomenal understanding of technique but he also has a great knowledge of the physical and mental sides of the game as well, which is what I believe distinguishes him from other coaches. During my time with him I have won my first county level tournament.

“Since starting lessons with Lee I have found them to be above and beyond what I had previously encountered with various other coaches. His style is structured and tailors his approach to the individuals learning style. I have found he will direct what needs to be addressed in a lesson rather than what the individual may want to look at which ensures you develop your swing properly and addressing the swing mechanics in an appropriate order rather than jumping to various different aspects of the game. I have found that my game has improved, my focus and approach has been more organised and have ultimately been able to enjoy golf more. The past year has mainly been working on good core swing mechanics which I have been grateful for. Previously my focus was to be able to play socially and then at a better standard. After Lee’s coaching I have now joined a club and I am looking to play more regularly and improve more.”
“Before I met Lee, I was shooting scores of around 110 – 115 on a regular basis. I hadn’t played for more than year and was on the verge of giving up my interest in golf. Also, I had taken lessons from one or two other coaches to no avail. Right from the assessment session, it was immediately apparent that Lee’s unique interpersonal approach to coaching was what I needed. He studiously came up with a structured plan to improve my game whilst setting realistic goals. Within a period of slightly less than 7 months, my scores have come to somewhere between 90 and 95 (with the occasional sub 90 score). I have no doubt that with Lee in my corner, I will be shooting scores of between 80 and 85 (or even better) by April next year. Every golfer needs a Lee Laughlin – he is simply the best!!!!”
“I have had about 6 or 7 lessons with Lee under whose expert instruction I have greatly improved. He picked up where I was going wrong very quickly and through specific drills has addressed the issues directly. His lessons are clear, concise and he talks through the technicalities of the swing in an easy to understand manner. Lee addresses any swing issues individually to get you on track before moving you on to the next stage. This greatly helped me to correct my swing problems gradually (and successfully) of which there were quite a few. I am now hitting the ball longer and straighter, my set up and alignment is better, and I have a good pre-shot routine that sets me up for my shot. I don’t play too often, about 10 times this year, but following coaching with Lee and practicing his drills, my scores have dropped from high 90’s to mid 80’s. Still a long way to go to get to single figures, but I think that’s more to do with me ‘getting out there’ more and putting the things Lee has taught me into practice.”
